Do More with Less

I was putting up some fencing around our horse pasture. Like most men, when I get involved in a project, a trip to the home improvement store becomes necessary. And I have to look around and make sure there’s nothing else I need, especially if power tools are involved.

Well, I bought what I thought I needed to do the fence. When I returned, I discovered that I already had the parts I needed from a previous project. I learned that if you do an inventory, you discover what you need and what you already have.

You do more with less.

You achieve more with less when you discover what your business needs and what you already have. Let’s inventory three aspects:

Attention

What gets most of your attention—the positive strengths of your business?

Or, the negative weaknesses?

Sure, we have to shore up the weak links in our chain of business operations from time to time. Do it quickly and efficiently whether it’s a personnel issue or software upgrade.

When you consistently focus on the negative, you find more problems to be solved. This use of your attention is counterproductive to your business’ growth.

Focus your attention instead on the positive strengths of your business.

One way to do this is to give yourself 10 minutes of positive thoughts each morning. Go over your calendar or list of tasks and spend 10 minutes visualizing positive outcomes. This focus on the best, positive possibilities for your work sets your attention compass on the due north of success. The rest of you follows.

Intention

What is it about your business that emotionally engages you? Why do you do this business instead of another one?

All business professionals have competing intentions. The real challenge for us to align our intentions with our attention. The positive strengths of your business are your priority attention. You couple those strengths with what you enjoy most about your business, or, as so many people talk about today, with what you’re passionate about.

You pair up your positive thoughts and people—strengths of your business—with your emotional engagement—your intentions—and create a vibrant, Work Positive business that spins off profits when you…

Action

…act on what you’ve paid attention to and given your intentions.

The question here is, “What do you do?”

How many business professionals do you know who, when you ask, “How’s business?” say something like, “All I do is solve personnel problems.”

What are they paying attention to? The weaknesses. So their actions reflect it.

How many more professionals tell you, “All I do is put out fires?”

Where are their intentions? Divorced from what they wish were their actions.

Such intentions pave the road to nowhere.

Action follows Attention and Intention.

Look at your to-do list and ask yourself, “Do these activities reflect my focus on positive strengths and people and what I get excited about in this business?”

Delegate or delete the ones that don’t.

Move the ones that do to the top of your list.

Then go do them.

That’s how you do more with less.

At ISN Works, we know how important it is to have up-to-date, top of the line, and readily available information for your prospects and customers at just a click of a button! We have developed an affordable Web design package for $799. See the details and additional information below:

On Google, the key phrase Motivational Speakers gets 2,433 searches per day. This is only one key phrase on one search engine. There are dozens of other keywords. The Web site with the number one position on this single key phrase will get about 29,196 visitors per month from Google. At a 1.5 percent conversion rate (an industry average) this will result in 438 new customers per month! So, I am sure you can see how important having a Web site is to your bottom line.

We will build your Web site with the pages below:

Home Page – This will introduce you to potential clients and include a short video.

About the Speaker – The real point of this page is to tell visitors all about the benefits of choosing you. The bottom of this page has a form with advanced, reCAPTCHA spam-preventing software. From this form, visitors may request more information about speaking engagements.

A Photo Album – This will show audiences reacting to your remarks. This is a stealth testimonial page because every picture has a caption and a roll-over window that contains audience quotes. An endorsement from a “real” person is the very best kind.

The Contact Page - This is the payoff page. Of course, we include our spam-defeating software as well. In fact, nowhere on this Web site can pirates obtain your e-mail address.

We absolutely guarantee that dollar-for-dollar, this is the best value you will find. This advanced site is designed to convert visitors to customers.

Advanced SEO (Search Engine Optimization) friendly Design

We GUARANTEE Google can crawl (be able to rank) every last page

You will only hear from customers, not spammers

Animated Photo Album

Designed by experts with decades of experience

From the experts in Speaker Marketing

Order now and we will give you three versions of your site for the same low price!

1) The regular desktop version

2) A mobile phone version for Apple & Google phones and Internet aware mp3 players

3) iPad version

According to research by Tellabs: “Up to 71 percent of consumers in the United States and 41 percent in parts of Western Europe anticipate that they will use the mobile Internet and other mobile data services on a daily basis over the next two years, with a significant ramp-up in the next twelve months.” Phones will outrank computers for Internet usage in less than three years.

We would never create a site and force you to fit our mold. You can have anything you see below for an additional $100 per page:

Blog – With an advanced sleight-of-hand, we have a system in place to allow you to blog from anywhere and upload to Google’s wildly popular blogger.com service AND your Web site automatically! With this, you can update your Web site any time you want.

Shopping Cart – You can sell anything you want or even give away promotional items. Of course, this advanced software works seamlessly with your Merchant Account or PayPal’s easy to set up system.

Events Page - Here is a cool page that will load Google maps and Street View technology, along with information about your next event.

Movie Album – If you have been paying attention, you have noticed an explosion of video on the Internet. There is a reason for this and it has nothing to do with Web designers being kind. The longer a person spends on a site the more likely the visitor is to make a positive buying decision. This is a direct correlation and you want to take advantage of it.

Text & Graphic Page – No, it’s not a sexy name, but it’s the most flexible page we have! Do you recommend resources such as books? How about giving visitors solid advice? Do you need a page to talk about your staff? This is a general purpose page and you have the podium.

Some sites we have designed –

http://drfab.net/

We have found there are many reasons why speakers join our organization other than the benefits above.

We consult with clients and process a career development workbook specifically identifying their topics, marketing materials and fee structure; we need this information to be able to speak intelligently to the meeting planners on your behalf. We consult with your personal goals, short term and long term. Our clients receive an industry specific database to work our marketing 200 program, designed to improve there current marketing program. Most speakers think referrals are marketing. It’s not! We discuss marketing plans for NEW BUSINESS.

We open doors for speakers through our graphics division by improving their current marketing materials to command those higher booking fees. We have been working with meeting planners through our marketing efforts for over 20 years. Our database is over 50,000. Our leads from those efforts generate “Calls for Presentation” through our MARKETING EFFORTS.

As you know, there are no guarantees in the speaking industry. The only thing we can guarantee is that any time you are a good fit; we would submit you and do our best to secure you the booking. The meeting planners make the final decision.

It would be my pleasure to work with you to help you grow your career, think about your possibilities of gained business with a marketing company that can also submit you for bookings.

Career Development

All new members will receive a Career Development workbook they can complete and return to us. The workbook will ask questions about your background, topics, and fees, how you currently market yourself, etc. It will also look at where you are and where you want to go. It will ask about current plans you have to reach your goals. It is an opportunity to provide us with in-depth information that will allow us to assist you better.

Bookings

As a member of International Speakers Network, you are eligible for any bookings we handle. We have several booking agents who are on the phones with meeting planners 40 hours a week working to secure bookings for our speakers. When we book you, we receive 25% of the booking fee and take no spin-offs. We have a huge database of event & meeting planners that consists of Associations, Corporations, Healthcare Industries, Religious, Businesses, Education K-12, Education Colleges & Universities, Insurance, Real Estate, Conventions, etc.

Marketing 200 Program

This is a program we have designed that provides a step-by-step procedure on how to market yourself to 200 Meeting Planners in such a way that you will be able to double or even triple your business in a year. It is a twelve month program that outlines the procedure on a monthly basis. We even provide you with 200 meeting planners and their contact information to assist you in using the program. Most people will work it for a month or two and give up. You need to follow the entire program for it to be successful. We will even work with your staff to guide them on ways to work with meeting planners and help them with scripts to use. One of our clients is a trainer who teaches people how to become trainers. He used the program for one entire year and called us at the end of the year to proudly announce he had tripled his business, taking him into the six digit income bracket. THIS PROGRAM IS OFFERED AS A BENEFIT TO OUR MEMBERS. YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO WORK THE PROGRAM IF YOU DO NOT WISH TO.

Marketing Assistance

If there is one thing we hear over and over from our members, it is that they do not like nor know how to market themselves. Most speakers rely on referrals and word of mouth. We feel like one of the most important benefits of being an ISN member is the fact that we are always available to discuss marketing ideas and techniques with you. Once you become a member, you can call at any time to discuss any facet of your career with either David Wright our President. Our company has been helping speakers increase their fees and get more bookings for over 15 years. If you never use any of our other services, it is worth the $525.00 membership fee just to be able to call and get advice from David. Some marketing firms will charge $1500 an hour for a marketing consultation. We offer it free to our members whenever they need it. We will offer additional marketing programs you can participate in from time to time. These programs will be an extra way to get your name in front of meeting planners.

Materials & Back-of-the Room Product

We can assist our members in any facet of their career. We have our own graphic design department. We have copywriters who can make sure your wording is what will entice meeting planners to book you. We offer discount pricing on any materials you may need such as one-sheets, postcards, press kits, brochures, etc.

We have a full service publishing company in house that can assist you through every phase of publishing your book. If you need a book, but do not have time or inclination to write one, we have ghost writers who can help you. We also produce anthologies where you can be interviewed for 30 minutes and it can be transcribed into a chapter for the book.

Training Workshops & Video Taping Opportunities

We hold four workshops a year where you can attend to receive additional training. At our workshops, we give speakers an opportunity to film a video.

Video can be filmed as a 10 minute video for demo use at just $200.00 or a full 45-minute presentation for back-of-the-room product for just $495.00. We use four cameras and edit on the fly so you walk away with a quality video to use for marketing purposes.

ISN Professional Designations

ISN offers training at our workshop to provide you with the tools you need to succeed in today’s industry. Members completed 64 hours of training (4 workshops) will receive their GSI (Graduate Speakers Institute) certification. ASC is a designation established by ISN to recognize those individuals who have completed one hundred and twenty-four (124) hours of course work or its equivalent. An Advanced Speaker Certification can be designed in most professional fields. ISN realizes many individuals have achieved a substantial education through work and life experience.

What do you believe about your business?

Your business beliefs are the core values of your “how” in leading your relationships and managing the details. Have you ever taken four minutes and written them down?

Make sure you include these three things you gotta believe about your business:

Business Pace

When my daughter ran distance races, she trained her body to build endurance by putting in the necessary miles daily. She also exercised her mind to learn course management.

She discovered in her first races that adrenaline would push her out hard and fast from the start and carry her for a while. If she kept up that pace, she often led, but when she approached the finish, she had no energy left and fell way back. The only result that counts is when you cross the finish line.

She discovered how to pace herself, starting strong, settling into a comfortable, economical pace, with enough reserve for a powerful finish kick. Such a pace allowed her to compete and succeed.

Your business has a pace. Adjusting your intensity to reflect it is a key to Work Positive success. You run sprints one way. Maybe that’s your 4Q. You run 5K’s an entirely different way. That might be your 1Q.

You gotta believe that your business has a pace and rhythm all its own. Adjust your intensity accordingly and train for it.

Balance People and Tasks

You can focus your business efforts on people—employees, vendors, and customers—but when you do, you lose sight of your company goals.

You can focus your energy on accomplishing tasks—your goals and action plan—but when you do, you forget that its people who accomplish those tasks.

My grandmother gave me a chocolate bunny every spring for Easter. Some years, I bit into it to find only air inside. Other years, it was marshmallow. My favorite years were those when I discovered chocolate through and through.

Balancing people and tasks means you lead your business consistently—through and through. You lead people to accomplish tasks and focus on tasks for people to achieve.

You gotta believe that your business succeeds when you balance people and tasks.

Beyond the Obvious

You’re staring at your P&L and balance sheets for 2011 about now. What do you believe happened in 2011 in your business?

A pair of sisters enjoyed shopping in a Goodwill shop in Virginia. One of them saw a pearl necklace, found it attractive, and since it was only $.69, bought it, believing that it was just costume jewelry.

Wearing it back home in Arizona, a friend commented on how beautiful it was and encouraged her to get it appraised. She did and discovered that it was worth a little more than the $.69 purchase price.

Like $50,000 more.

As you look back on 2011 and forward into 2012, you gotta believe beyond the obvious. Believe that at least some of your investments in adjusting your business pace will pay off this year. Believe that by balancing people and tasks you will discover unimagined value.

You gotta believe in your business in 2012!

That’s right, the next 14 days are it. I was reminded of this by Rick Houcek, the best strategy coach I know. I faithfully read everything he writes. Why? Because I find him to be intelligent, practical and he says exactly what coaches and educators should be saying –- the plain truth! Here are some sobering thoughts from Rick: “So, the question is: Do you want 2012 to be the best year of your life? Sure, who doesn’t? But here’s the trap of the unmotivated: They think simply turning the page of the calendar magically delivers new riches gift-wrapped to their doorstep, effortless triumphs, and nothing but sunshine and soft landings. Good luck with that. Here’s the rude awakening: On January 1, gas prices will still be high, education still expensive, wars still being fought. Businesses still struggling, jobs still lost, and crime won’t stop. The world doesn’t change just because the ball drops on Times Square. Never has. This isn’t pessimism – it’s the cold reality of life. My point: 2012 will not be your best ever if you just cross your fingers and hope. Takes more than that. You can’t change the world, but YOU CAN CHANGE YOU. Dream bigger, plan better, learn new skills, apply them rapidly, read more, take risks, improve your attitude, take action. Shorelines are littered with carcasses of lazy folks who died waiting for their ship to come in. Meanwhile, winners are swimming out to get theirs and pull-towing it in to dock.”

With these thoughts in mind, I believe that the best and fastest road to success in the speaking, training, consulting, and coaching business is MARKETING! Also, it has been my experience for the past twenty-two years working exclusively with the people in these professions, that marketing is the hardest part of their business. Some are even terrified of trying to “sell themselves.” This is understandable, since they spend so much time preparing, writing and delivering their presentations to their clients. Our company partners with our members and clients in an effort to market their services and products to corporations and associations. We know what we are doing, based on the successes of those who have worked with us over the past two decades. We believe in high quality and low cost methods of marketing each of our clients specifically to their prospective clients.

So, the question is: Do you really want a super 2012? Enough to do whatever it takes? If yes, then you need to GET SERIOUS! Give us a call and let us assist you in PLANNING the outcomes you passionately want in the next 12 months. Then, over the next 2 weeks, find quiet time to consider your commitments to work together with us to execute your business plan and significantly increase your engagements and income. In his letter to me, Rick’s closing thoughts were especially meaningful: “Stay focused and on-path. Let nothing derail you. Not family, not friends. (You’ll have detractors. Ignore them.) Track progress, celebrate wins. THAT’s how you make next year your best ever. By taking control. Plan constantly, act relentlessly, detonate roadblocks. Oh, one last thing. If this doesn’t resonate for you, that’s okay, it doesn’t make you a bad person. But it does mean you forfeit the right to bellyache when little works out for you. Few will care or listen. Be better than that!” Rick closed with a Power Thought: “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” Wayne Gretzky, legendary professional hockey player, 9-time league MVP, holds or shares 61 NHL records.

Call me today to discuss 2012- 1-800-987-7771 ext 11

Thanks!

Tracy

Lauren Ruotolo is the Director of Entertainment Promotions at Hearst Magazines in New York City, where she is responsible for developing strategic key partnerships with TV & cable networks, music labels, and movie studios. She recently helped produce E!’s Style Network show about the inner workings at Marie Claire fashion magazine and is working on two one-hour specials with Scripps Networks for Esquire and The Food Network magazine. Lauren joined Hearst Magazines from TV Guide Magazine, where she was the Director of Consumer Marketing & Promotions and created the first ever U.S. newsstand promotion with CD on the cover.

Ruotolo’s first-person essay “Get Shorty,” which shared her philosophies on living with the rare genetic disorder McCune-Albright syndrome, was published in Marie Claire magazine in 2009, and was one of the most-responded to articles in Marie Claire. Ruotolo is on the advisory board of Glamour Gals, Love Our Children USA, and is an active member in the NY chapter of Women in Communications.

Visit Lauren on Facebook, follow her on Twitter (laurenjaenyc).

Who’s the Little Girl with the Big Voice?

Standing 4 feet, 2 inches tall in flats (which she would never be caught dead in anyway), Lauren Ruotolo has spent her 33-ish years seeing the world from a unique angle—upward facing. She does not have dwarfism and she is not a paraplegic. Ruotolo was born with McCune-Albright Syndrome, a mysterious and rare genetic disease that researchers say occurs in anywhere between 1 in 100,000 and 1 in 1 million people. Some people with the condition have short legs due to deformities (Lauren does); and some experience early puberty and accelerated development (Lauren literally started developing at 9 months old, and went into menopause as a pre-teen); and bones can be easily broken and bruised (count her in), and therefore, they tend to go the wheelchair route. That was never going to be a road Lauren wanted to travel. And so far, so good!

Her preferred method of transportation, instead, include stiletto heels, and she utilizes them to do everything from hailing cabs in mid-town Manhattan and driving her white Audi convertible back to her childhood home and hairdresser parents on Long Island, to traipsing along the streets of exotic, ancient places like Greece and Turkey. But how does a girl who was originally predicted to live a wheel-chair bound existence become so adventurous, self-assured, successful, and . . . unflappable?

Instead of being hovered over by enabling parents, she was sent off to sleep away camp (and became a counselor later on). Instead of trailing behind the other kids in grade school in a game of freeze tag, she orchestrated it. Instead of following in the footsteps of her two stunning younger sisters, she became the role model big sister to them (and landed a hot boyfriend, to boot!) Today she is the Director of Entertainment Promotions for Hearst Magazines.

Lauren Ruotolo avoided the label of “disabled” through uniquely discovering who she really is and thus avoiding playing the label game. The little girl, with the big voice, Ruotolo is a combination of roaring personality, great mind, and humble soul, with a heart bigger than any shoe closet of Carrie Bradshaw. Part of that heart fills this book, as Ruotolo offers the entertaining evolution of a little girl in a big world to living tall in a small one, with advice and encouragement for any woman of any age who is still finding her way.

Pamela J. Gordon, keynoter, book author, corporate president, and radio/TV personality. For 25 years she has inspired corporate, association, and community audiences on achieving Lean and Green: Profit for Your Workplace and the Environment (also the title of her 2001 book). Pamela motivates her audiences to make their work and personal lives successful, profitable, and sustainable.

Pamela is founder and president of the consulting firm Technology Forecasters Inc., whose insights since 1987 have been relied upon by the world’s electronics industry executives, and quoted in the Wall Street Journal, Economist, and Business Week. Each topic connects sound business practices with audience members’ greatest values in this dynamic, complex world:

Fail-Safe Executive Commitment for Environment, Health, and Sustainability

Global Manufacturing that Honors People, Planet, and Profit

Leverage Your Personal Values to Boost Your Career

Audience testimonials are exemplified by Gita Kulkarnis’ “You did a fabulous job. Wow. It was the first substantive presentation I’ve heard in a long time!” and Joe Zaccari’s “You have something that could make a real difference for a company’s future. I came away feeling positive and motivated about what I’m doing.” These are the rave reviews you can expect from your audience after Pamela’s keynote.

10 Reasons to Engage Pamela for Your Keynote!

#10 Pamela is a winner and inspires people to win in what matters

In November 2011 she was elected winner of the 2011 Sustainability Summit Community Award, presented in Europe with votes from North America, Asia, and all over the world. Her personal commitment is for every member of the audience to win at what matters in business and life.

#9 She is real

Audiences sense right away that Pamela speaks as both a successful entrepreneur and a person who cares about the future. She weaves her experience running a profitable company (since age 27) and backpacking in wildnerness (since age 8) to convince everyone that profit and planet are absolutely related and achievable.

#8 …and she knows how to perform

Though she won’t sing during your keynote, she is a semi-professional singer and has played leading acting roles in many community productions.

#7 Earned international credibility

Today’s audiences are more international than ever – with people hailing from all over the world. Pamela – who lives currently in California — has lived abroad and addressed audiences in EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa), and has traveled or spoken also in Asia, Australia/New Zealand, South America, Canada, and Mexico.

#6 Engages the whole audience

When Pamela started speaking at electronics-industry conferences, she was often the only woman on the agenda. Yet the industry embraced her credible, insightful strategies for success. Today, whether she’s speaking to Women in Technology International or Association for Manufacturing Excellence, Pamela gets respect and attention. (And if she can get electronic engineers talking, she can and does open up any audience!)

#5 Provides actionable recommendations

Low on fluff on high on successful strategies, Pamela’s presentations produce “do-ers” – audience members who are pumped up and know exactly what to do with that new energy to make their companies and lives more profitable while also benefiting society and the environment.

#4 Has courage, and inspire courage in others

Unafraid to challenge audiences to create 10-to-50-year goals, or to drive to the heart of what people care about in business and life, Pamela has the courage to be a game changer – for the positive.

#3 Brings best practices

Audiences love hearing about organizations they like and respect. Pamela inspires imagination by pointing to innovative best practices in the real world.

#2 She’s “with it”

Being a Blogger, Tweeter, and fast tracker, and parent of a teen and pre-teen, not much gets past Pamela. You can guarantee that her approach and points will be pertinent, alive, and “today.”

#1 It’s the right thing to do

After engaging Pamela to be your keynote speaker, you will know that you played a role in benefitting the livelihood of your audience and helping to preserve environmental integrity and human dignity. (Plus you’ll get to hear your audience laugh and engage.)
